Students who want to study in Ireland must meet minimum English language requirements to be eligible, unless they are for an English language course.
According to Immigration regulations students must reveal their capacity to fully partake in their chosen course through the English medium. In this regard they need to satisfy the Visa Officer. Therefore, regardless of educational background and nationality, it is highly recommended for all applicants to undertake the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) English language test, and provide original certificate with your visa with application."
Minimum scores for all accepted examinations including IELTS are set out on the INIS website. Any certificate which has not been issued within two years of the expected start date of the course is considered to be invalid. In case, if the IELTS requirement for a course that was chose by a student is higher than the standard minimum for visa purposes, students should submit the proof to the immigration authorities that they had met the college's requirements.
Universities and Colleges have specific language requirements for admission, though these vary from one course to another. One should contact the International Office or Admissions Office at the institution to know more details regarding that particular course.
International English Language Testing System is the most widely recognized language exam in Ireland.
